New work!

Sorta! During evaluation week at school, when PhotoLand was closed, I decided to scan a ton of negatives that I've shot over the past quarter. I have high hopes of getting some work done on my website while I'm in Colorado, but I highly doubt it. Due to the weather we've been getting here in the Pacific Northwest, my trip has been cut down from 11 days to a short week. That, is an entirely different story I will not go into now. It's far too complicated and frustrating to discuss.Anywho! On to the reason reason for this post! My new work! I once again tackled portraits this quarter. I've started shooting a faster film, and sometimes use flash to give my photographs a bit more vibrance. I try to keep it minimum as I greatly appriciate the simplicity of natural light. As part of my contract this year as an intern in the photography department at my school, I'll be participating in two group shows this year. The first one is due to go up in February, but the location or the exact date is still undecided. Here's a few images I've scanned and watermarked for your viewing pleasure. They may or may not be included in the February show. I'm still in the editing process.

The summer has arrived.

...and that means it's time to go back to school! I'm taking a color film photography course this summer, and I'm quite excited to go back to school, make up credits that I missed while in my 6 months off, and see if I can working on graduating on time. Anywho, I spent most of the day with a friend of mine from school, and we checked out Black Lake, which has a swimming spot. She (Althea) was looking for good images for a photo journalism course she's taking, and I went along for company, and perhaps my own photographs. I didn't find any, and she found little.

Later on, we met up with my friend Alex to complete the first assignment for my color photo class: to shoot 1-2 rolls of film and have them processed by monday's 9am class. Well, I found the second half of the roll much easier to shoot in a bar at 5pm, with plenty of daylight inside the place. After I completed my roll, Althea and I headed back to my place to gather some digital equipment, and I ended up shooting a roll of 35mm color film in the backyard of my humble abode. I started off shooting digital, and realized that the light back there (7pm) was perfect, so I quickly shot a 35mm roll for the color class to process tomorrow. After that we checked out this property that had been raided by the local cops, and we thought it was abandoned, after taking some images with an old truck as a prop, we realized there we people living in there, we headed out. Fort Popham

So I have been going over images, and recently stumbed upon this awesome plug in for photoshop called Alien Skin Exposure 2. It's basically a plug in that contains filters for different film types, so you can put it over a digital image and have it resemble a certain image shot using a film. It's pretty cool, although its price isn't. So here's an image i applied the filter of Fuji Velvia 100F to.

I made it to salt lake city in about7.5 hours with 2 stops for gas in Wyoming. Oh wyoming. If you've ever driven on I80 through there you'd feel my pain. There's nothing, for miles. Luckily, I didn't almost run out of gas like the previous times I'd gone though. So I'm headed to Boise today after staying the night with my brother in law Raffi and his girlfriend Ischa. (thanks bridg for spelling)

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

Hey folks! My faithful car, Stella, and I are back on the road again. We head from Colorado at 11am tomorrow (Tuesday, 5/27/08) morning headed to Salt Lake City, Utah to stay with family for the night and a short visit on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the next stop is Boise, ID, about 4 hours later. I'm going to see if I can push further, but so far, research hasn't shown much existence between Boise, ID and Portland, OR.

Thursday: I head from Boise, ID to Portland, OR to visit friends for dinner, and then its up to Washington for the final haul.

That's the plan so far. If you need/would like to contact me, cell would be best. I took a drive down Rt. 9 in Vermont yesterday towards Bennington, VT where I stumbled upon these three buildings encased in decay.

So I'm in Vermont for a bit. I cheated and took a plane from Colorado to Maine where I met my folks, and went to Vermont from there. I think I'm going to possibly start this blog over and fully post my trip day by day with photos. It's a big process an d I'm still going over the images. Anywho, here's an image I took the other day.

updates

So I've been in Fairfax, CA this weekend with my friend Molly Z. Yesterday we ran around with a camera and then took this awesome drive up near Mt. Tam, it was beautiful. Here's a photo I took when we stopped. My next stop in my father's cousin place south of San Francisco. I'll be staying there for a week, while im visiting with her and also going to an event on Saturday. Should be pretty fun.

LOS ANGELES

So, i drove up to los angeles yesterday afternoon, after spending some time in San Diego with friends. I met up with my friend Sam Proof, and we took a stroll down Hollywood Bvd. then went for a cruise and coffee and checked out some sights looking for some good places to take photos in the dying light. We ended up shooting on the roof of his friend's studio. It was pretty fun and I was pretty beat afterward. We still ended up going back to Sam's place and kicking it. Not a bad day. Today i went to Venice Beach and took some photographs, and then took some random drive back. I'm currently relaxing at a wonderful cafe. Ciao for now.

Today I had an awesome time with my friends Kim and Nicole. We headed downtown and checked out the Star of India, and some other boats in the vicinity. Here's an image from one of them.

well i finally made it to san diego. I spent three days in Grass Valley, CA with great my aunt seeing Navada City and Grass Valley, which are both quaint towns in their area. After visiting with my great aunt, I took the 101 down the coast to San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande, and Pismo Beach. Those three spots were pretty cool. Then i drove down to San Diego which was about an eight hour drive which I pretty much did in one swoop, stopping only for gas and coffee. Getting stuck in L.A. traffic didn't help either. Another update and photos soon! Stay tuned!

101 in california

...is beautiful. 'Nuff said. It was a gorgeous drive. Found some abandoned buildings that i photographed. What I loved about the road is the diversity of sights I saw, from gorgeous valleys to random tiny churches on the side of the road. Winter isn't much of a tourism season, but there was still plenty of little places to check out in the Redwoods. Here's one image of one of the abandoned places I stumbled upon.


I'm headed to my great aunts in grass valley, CA today which should be gorgeous. I'm pretty excited to see family, I haven't been out to my aunts house since I visited with my family about ten years ago. That's all for now.

So, the plan was sucessfull. I took I-5 to rt. 126 and then headed down the oregon coast. it was amazingly beautiful. It was amazing seeing the sun set as I drove down the coast. Rt. 101 is an amazing drive and i recomend it to anyone looking for a beautiful drive. It is only a two lane road, but the speeds are pretty fast. I made it to Brookings, OR today. Onto somewhere in cali down the 101 tomorrow.

I've finally figured out my plans and am about to hit the road. I'm taking the I-5 south to Eugene, OR and then taking 126 West to get to the US101 South. This route will take my down the coast of Oregon and I'll stop for the night hopefully in Brookings, OR which is right on the California border. After that stopI'm continuing on the 101 all the way to San Francisco, or near it, where I'll connect onto Interstate 80 East and head to my great aunt's place in Grass Valley. Should be a blast.

weather!

Snow storms in oregon and california are still screwing up my plans for my "winter" in California. It's been frustrating trying to figure out how to get there, and waiting for better weather isn't much of an option. Depending on conversations with family tomorrow morning, I may try and take Rt. 101 down the coast of oregon to California, but I'll still have to cross into the mountains. to head onto 80E to get to my destination.

portland, or

So, weather in both oregon and california has slowed my process for traveling, but I've been staying in Portland, Oregon since Saturday night. I spent Saturday night with my cousin Charley, who's a bit older than me, but we got burgers and beer at some pub and it was pretty decent. I spent Sunday with my cousin getting caught up on family stuff, and what he's been up to.

Today, I basically ran around Portland with a camera today, but didn't really take any photographs. Sometimes I'm just too interested in whats around me to bother recording it.
I also spent some time at Powell's City of Books which is an awesome giant book store with an amazing photography section. The biggest I've ever seen in a bookstore. Got an awesome new portrait book by a photographer I'm now forgetting the name of, but it's pretty cool. Tomorrow I hope to check out the Portland Art Museum, which should be pretty sweet.

Due to the weather I'm running into both in Oregon and California, I think I'm going to take the scenic route down the 101, which runs parallel to the coast. and then cut over to I80 E to see my aunt which is my next stop.

moving out dAY

Today is the last day I'm in my apartment so I'm cleaning it and such. Still got my bed to move, but everyone seems to be working today. Oh well. I plan to leave early Sunday morning like 4am early. Which should get me at my great Aunt's by six in Northern California. It's weird spending so much time getting your apartment to feel like a home and then suddenly, dismantling it to have no set place of residence. It's a thought I'm still adjusting to.

So, with two or three days to go, ive started the blog for my trip. i'll hope to make entries whenever I'm on wireless so yeah. check often to hear bout my adventures on the road. I'll hopefully figure out how to publish photos on this as always photos will be shown!

I'm also collecting folks contact info so when im on the road i can visit folks, so lemme know!
